Abstract
An 11-year-old female patient arrived at the stomatology service of an educational institution reporting that, initially, “a small protuberance like a wart appeared in the tip of her tongue” and that a dentist prescribed metronidazole. The lesion shrank, but around 1 week later it began to grow rapidly again, reaching great proportions. The patient reported being healthy with no allergies, no use of medication, and no morbid personal and family history. Extraoral examination revealed no facial or lymph node elevations. Intraoral physical examination found a lesion on the anterior dorsum of the tongue, measuring approximately 3.0 cm × 2.0 cm, single, nodular, lobulated, pedicular, pink with white dots, softened and with spontaneous bleeding. The diagnostic hypothesis was pyogenic granuloma with indication for excisional biopsy, which was performed the following week and the histopathologic report confirmed the diagnostic. The patient was followed for 4 months without recurrence.
