Abstract

Under a DOE/PETC cost-shared contract, an Amax-led team of coal companies and engineering and research organizations has been working on engineering development of two advanced physical coal cleaning processes for premium fuel applications. Both column flotation and selective agglomeration processes appear capable of producing ultra-clean coal, which when converted to a highly loaded coal-water slurry fuel (CWF) can replace premium fuels (oil and gas) in many utility and industrial boilers and advanced power systems. The paper presents an overview of the project and highlights the accomplishments made to date.
