Abstract

Quite recently, the application of nanotechnology to produce stronger, greener, and more durable cementitious composites through nano-modification has emerged out as the center of attention for global concrete researchers who are endeavoring constantly to bring about increasingly more enhancement in the context of durability, strength, and sustainability to building materials. The studies on development of ultramodern, innovative, green nano-modified cementitious composites are significantly concentrating on the basic science concerning them at a nanolevel. The incorporation of nanomaterials provides a new-fangled approach to develop avant-garde, high-performance, multi-functional, durable, and ecobenevolent building materials with improved mechanical properties. This chapter summarizes the different kinds of nanomaterials and their influence while supplementing them in manufacturing green cement-based construction composites on diverse essential parameters, viz., mechanical strengths, durability, microstructure, thermal, shrinkage, freeze-thaw, abrasion, or erosion together with their resistances against the chemical deteriorations such as alkali–aggregate reactions, attacks of solutions of sulfate and acid, etc., in order to promote them as the most promising building materials for future.
