Abstract

Some of the major contributions of the Joint European Torus (JET) to the development of magnetic fusion energy are described with reference to key publications. These contributions include the development of fusion-specific technologies and the study of fusion performance and physics in reactor-relevant plasmas. An important aspect of the JET programme is to understand how results obtained on JET may be extrapolated or applied to ITER, DEMO and a fusion reactor. Links between work on JET and this forward-looking approach are introduced.
