Abstract

The inorganic chemical industry fared well in 1961, with many of the chemicals setting new production records. Nevertheless, a number of chemicals were unable to counteract a slow7 first half, despite accelerated activity during the second six months of the year. The generally high level of output of the second half of 1961 has continued into 1962, and output of most major inorganic chemicals will probably exceed 1961 levels this year. As a measure of the over-all activity of the inorganic chemical industry, the Federal Reserve Board's production index for this segment shows a rise from 115 in 1960 to 118 in 1961. During the first four months of 1962, FRIVs index for inorganic chemicals was 6.8rA above that of the corresponding period of 1961.
