Abstract

In this chapter, the fatigue behavior of carbon fabric–reinforced epoxy laminates under different loading conditions is described. Constant fatigue life (CFL) diagrams at different temperatures in dry and wet environments are identified over the whole range of mean stress. The validity of the anisomorphic CFL diagram approach for fatigue life prediction of carbon fabric/epoxy laminates not only at different temperatures but also in different moisture environments is demonstrated. Moreover, a generalized anisomorphic CFL diagram approach that allows efficiently and adequately predicting CFL diagrams of composites over a range of temperature is discussed and tested for accuracy of prediction of S–N relationships at different stress ratios and temperatures. Finally, variable loading fatigue of carbon fabric composites is briefly discussed on the basis of the results of alternating stress-ratios tests.
