Abstract

Many emergency departments (ED) have identified the importance of HIV prevention and have implemented steps to screen and offer HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP). However, there is limited consensus on the examination of eligibility and outcomes of PrEP in the ED to continue using this critical tool to decrease spread of HIV. The objective of this study was to systematically review existing literature that identify PrEP eligibility in the ED and summarize outcomes along the PrEP Cascade of Care (awareness, interest, linkage to treatment, initiation, adherence, and retention) for ED patients.
