Abstract

In order to determine the probable runoff in a drainage‐basin during the critical months of the irrigation‐season and so be able to plan how the available supply of water can best be utilized by any irrigation‐system, it is necessary to find out what the average water‐content of the snow is in the drainage‐basin concerned above a certain elevation. For this purpose snow‐courses are laid out at selected points and samples taken at practically the same time each year. The location of these courses is shown on the attached Figures 1 and 2. These samples when weighed give the depth of water contained in the snow measured, and the average of all the samples taken gives the average depth of snow and average water‐content on each course measured and also gives a close estimate for the whole drainage‐area.
