Abstract

Epoxy-coated reinforcing steel (FBECR) has been extensively used for over 40 years and is the most common corrosion-resistant reinforcement used in concrete. This chapter will describe background history, specifications for epoxy-coated reinforcing, fabrication, and handling of these bars. An extensive discussion of pertinent field and laboratory research is provided, including discussions of instances of poor performance. Changes in the specifications are also placed into historical context, based upon observed field and laboratory performance.
