Abstract

The leakage flow characteristics of labyrinth brush seals installed at the turbine rotor blade shroud were numerical investigated using Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) and porous medium model solution. The leakage flow fields in the stepped labyrinth seal, one stage brush seal and two stage brush seal were calculated at the same flow condition. Numerical results show that the leakage flow rate of two kinds of brush seals is smaller than that of the labyrinth seal. The detailed leakage flow fields in the labyrinth and brush seals are also illustrated.
