Abstract
When a heated circular or rectangular channel is cooled by forced convection of air, there are several methods for enhancement of heat transfer such as parallel or spiral fins on the channel surface. The objective of this study is to investigate heat transfer and removal characteristics by forced convection in the channels with high porosity inserts. A heat transfer experiment was carried out using the one-side heated vertical rectangular channel to obtain the heat removal characteristic in the channel with copper wire inserts. From the results obtained in this experiment, it was found that an amount of heat removal with the copper wire (porosity>0.996) was larger than that without one and a heat removal ratio increased with the temperature of the heated wall.
