Abstract

There are a number of models that are used to understand and manage disasters. It is important to remember that models are just tools—they are not reality. Some of the most common ones are the Pressure and Release Model, Comprehensive Emergency Management, and the Incident Management System. Each model has its own strengths and weaknesses, and students of disaster management should have a good understanding of all models to choose the most appropriate one for the task at hand.
