Abstract

As aortic valve (AV) repair techniques become more sophisticated, surgeons require increasingly detailed information about the structure and function of this valve. Two-dimensional TEE cannot demonstrate all parts of the AV. Real-time 3D TEE has opened up new possibilities to image the AV. We hypothesized that measuring coaptation surface area (CoapSA) would be feasible, reproducible, and that CoapSA would be reduced in patients with aortic insufficiency (AI).
