Abstract

Non-melanoma skin cancer (NMSC) represents the most frequent type of cancers among Caucasians. Consisting of basal cell carcinoma (BCC) and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), which both develop in the epidermis of the skin. The incidence of NMSC has increased by 33% over the past 10 years. The steadily increasing number of cases continue to cause burden to society and health care. Vitiligo is an autoimmune disease characterized by white depigmented skin lesions due to local loss of melanocytes. We showed the protective effect of vitiligo against melanoma and clinical and epidemiological data suggest that vitiligo may also suppress NMSC.
