Abstract

‘The arts on the silk road’ provides a sample of shared Eurasian cultural and intellectual themes. Vernacular tales throughout Eurasia shared certain genres and styles, with some stories from India spreading to east and west. In music, the lute was an important instrument in diverse lands. From its central Asian origin, it was adapted across the world and used by Islamic scholars to develop music theory. Both objects and craftsmen moved, and stimuli diffused spreading particular motifs, designs, and styles. The halo is one example of this. Chinese blue and white porcelain's was highly desirable in Europe and was imitated there, but had Islamic roots.
