Abstract

IntroductionThe fourth Computational Particle Physics Workshop (CPP2016) was successfully carried out in Hayama, Japan. The main purpose of this workshop was to discuss issues on theoretical analysis with computers in large scale analysis in the field of high energy physics. Since Japanese, French, and Russian collaborating research groups held the very first Workshop in Tokyo in 1998, participants from other European and Asian countries started to join. This Workshop was hosted in honor of commemorating Professor Yoshimitsu Shimizu’s dedication to this field of study. He passed away on the 6th of October, 2015. From here on, we shall call Professor Shimizu “Shimizu-sensei,” the way he used to be called by other researchers and his friends, as in accordance with a Japanese custom.Shimizu-sensei has achieved highly in the analysis of higher order perturbation effect in the electro-weak theory. Together he also found out and realized that analysis in this particular field would progress revolutionary with the advanced use of computers. At the same time, he played the center role on constructing and analyzing such system, and achieved to establish today’s calculation methods. He has also established close friendship with many researchers worldwide in this field of study especially for his generous personality.Shimizu-sensei played the main role in the past three CPP Workshops as well, wishing for further progress in this field of study and its future until the day he passed away. This Workshop was dedicated to express his passion and will toward his lifetime research. Furthermore, according to his last will and testament, a portion of his inheritance supported the operation of this Workshop. At this time, the Organizing Committee decided to hold memorial sessions inviting those who were close to him in his living days in addition to scientific sessions. We have summarized scientific session presentations into these proceedings. We believe that they will provide both the current status of the study in this field, and the directions and suggestions for future progress. The Committee would like to express a sincere and deepest appreciation towards the ones who contributed and paid dedication towards this Workshop, participants, and those who participated the memorial sessions.CPP2016 Organizing Committee
