Abstract

AbstractHysteresis‐free pixel switching and a high control of the fluid flow are beneficial for making optimal use of electrowetting display technology. As described in the paper, the pixel design is shown to play a dominant role to optimize the pixel switching characteristics and to allow improved gray‐scale reproducibility. Use of pixel features such as a hydrophilic patch or a staircase, are shown to be effective. Advantages and drawbacks of these methods are discussed.
