Abstract
Introduction and aims of the study: We aimed to provide normative data about intrauterine placental growth and placental growth relative to fetal growth (placental to fetal ratio) by measuring placental and fetal volumes with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Methods: We examined 107 non-selected singleton pregnancies with MRI at gestational week 27 and 37. The MRI images were obtained with a 1.5 T scanner in the sagittal plane with 5 millimeter thickness. The placenta and the fetus were traced offline in every slice, and volumes were calculated based on the measured area and slice thickness.
