Abstract

Increasing numbers of urban adolescent females are experiencing violent injury and death. However, this population is poorly described in the literature. Among other violently injured populations, surveillance has been limited by erroneous assignment of external cause of injury codes (E-codes), resulting in misattribution of intentionality and by missing information in provider documentation. To our knowledge, no chart review of violent injuries among adolescent females seen in the ED, or of the completeness of their ED chart documentation, has been completed.
