Abstract

The University of Tokushima and Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka conducted a new student mobility program in 2013 under the program called CEL Summer Program 2013 (CEL-SP13). CEL-SP13 is composed of four types of exposures, including cultural, academic, project, and technical exposures. This paper presents CEL-SP13 for each exposure and reviews the results from the student activities in the program. Even though CEL-SP13 includes many elements to learn, the mobility students completed the program with more than expected. One of the critical factors of this success was a Malaysian coordinator student who bridged the gap between the two different cultures and institutions. Based on the discussion on the review of CE.L-SP13, this paper proposes a manufacturing system globalization through academic collaboration. In order to make it successfully, the importance of engineer education for bilateral cultures is emphasized.
