Abstract
Potential retinoid binding protein affinity labels 3 – 5 were prepared from the retinoic acid metabolite 2. While unsuccessful as affinity labels, 5 and the serendipitously discovered either 6 show potential as skin cancer chemoproventives, activity not normally associated with 4-oxygenated retinoids.
