Abstract

Over the past 30 years, organic agriculture management systems and institutions have been constantly improving, which contributed to the prosperous, orderly, and healthy development of organic agriculture in China. Currently, the main government bodies overseeing organic agriculture in China are Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Market Regulation, and Ecology and Environment authorities. China has developed comprehensive and rigorous institutional systems on organic agriculture, including a legal system and a standards system. The legal system covers laws, administrative regulations, codes, and guidelines. China also institutes mandatory and legally binding national standards on organic certification and have built a unified catalogue of certified products. In recent years, the competent agencies have also conducted organic agriculture demonstration creation projects to set examples and benchmarks. This will encourage participation from local governments, businesses, and other social actors for the goals of high-quality development of organic agriculture.
