Abstract
Virtual Reality (VR) has been implemented on various manufacturing industries recently. Technology development results in an improvement of VR technique which has been widely applied to machine tools. Although CNC (computer numerical control) lathe and milling machines are generally used in production, educational institution can’t afford to buy new equipment for its expensive price andmaintenance cost. This may producelittle effect on training course without real machine operation. In this research, a traditional three-axis CNC lathe has been computerized by VR technique. A combination of VR environments and VR controllers on the developed 3D CNC system is capable to train and educate the beginners. Solidworks for CAD and EON Studio for VR are carefully applied to construct a virtual 3-axis CNC lathe for fundamental operations. However, virtual controller system on the 3-axis CNC is written by Microsoft Visual studio2010. The programmable functions on the developed3D CNC are based on interfacial set up in real machine. The website of 3D CNC training platform is also established for those students are able to remotely logon and learn the simulated basic CNC operation knowledge. By the developed 3D CNC system, users create G-code can be directly checked before implementation.
