Abstract

This study uses the profile function data from three orthogonal directions to reconstruct 3D images of underwater separated objects by the 3D weight function method. The profile function of the separated objects is proportional to the ramp response which can be obtained by linear manipulation of bipolar triangular pulse response in time domain. 3D acoustic images of three separated spheroid-pairs with different aspect ratios are reconstructed using the 3D weight function method. The dimensional parameters and separation distances of the separated targets can be obtained visually from the 3D acoustic images. The results show that the 3D acoustic image method provides better image performance for prolate spheroid-pairs than oblate spheroids-pairs.
