Abstract

Ketamine has several properties that make it an ideal sedative such as potent analgesia, minimal cardiovascular (CV) side effects, lack of respiratory depression and newly discovered antidepressant actions. The purpose of this study was to describe the use of CI ketamine in patients receiving concurrent IV analgesia/sedation while on ECMO. The aim of this study was to determine if an improvement in RASS scores occurred after the initiation of ketamine or if a dose reduction in concurrent IV analgesics/sedatives occurred.
