Abstract

Characteristics of nitride fuel as an advanced fuel, and the history and current status of nitride fuel development were summarized in Section 3.02.1. The preparation manners of nitride fuel from metal, hydride, and oxide were described, among which the carbothermic reduction of oxide was emphasized. Sintering characteristics of nitride fuel were also described in Section 3.02.2. With regard to the irradiation behavior, the results of irradiation tests of nitride fuel carried out in past were summarized in Section 3.02.3. In addition, related studies on reprocessing of nitride fuel were briefly introduced in Section 3.02.4 before the outlook of nitride fuel development in Section 3.02.5.
