Abstract
The energy and industry sectors are two important constituents of Indian economy. These sectors are also responsible for emissions of reactive nitrogen species like nitrous oxide and other oxides of nitrogen. Indian energy sector was reported to emit 12.06Gg of N2O for the year 2010 with majority of these emissions taking place from the electricity production which accounted for 11.68Gg N2O. A number of studies have been carried out in India for estimation of oxides of nitrogen (NOx) from energy sector that included measurement at thermal power plants. These studies established the NOx emission coefficients for coal-based thermal power plants in India. Production of nitric acid and adipic acid in India has been reported to emit 7Gg and 1.11Gg of N2O, respectively, in the year 2010.
