Abstract

Disorders involving the femoral, saphenous, and lateral femoral cutaneous nerve are discussed. The relevant anatomy is described for each nerve. Clinical, electrodiagnostic, and imaging aspects for each of these mononeuropathies are discussed. For each nerve, figures show the correct placement of surface electrodes for obtaining proper motor and sensory responses. Reference values for the nerve conduction studies are provided. A formal electrodiagnostic protocol for the evaluation of femoral neuropathy is also presented. The relative importance of electrodiagnostic testing and imaging in making the diagnosis of each mononeuropathy is weighed.
