Abstract
This chapter outlines and reviews the literature on acquired lesions of the lung and pleura. This includes outlining the evolution of parapneumonic effusions and empyema and reviewing the associated means of management and outcomes based on the latest literature focusing on the highest levels of evidence. The chapter then courses through lung abscess, pneumatocele, bronchiectasis, chylothorax, interstitial lung disease, right middle lobe syndrome, and primary spontaneous pneumothorax.
