The IEEE Journal of Electromagnetics, RF, and Microwaves in Medicine and Biology (J-ERM) encourages the submission of manuscripts with scopes in state-of-the-art research related to electromagnetics theory, techniques, and integration for medical and biological applications including, but not limited to, RF and microwave integrated circuits; antennas and sensors for wireless implants; diagnostic and therapeutic systems; electromagnetic imaging; magnetic resonance imaging; radiometry and thermography; the interaction of electromagnetic fields with biological materials at the tissue, cellular, and molecular levels; bio-electric and bio-electromagnetic models; pathological, physiological, and biochemical studies with electromagnetic waves; computational methods for bio-electromagnetics; electromagnetic safety studies and regulatory compliance; implantable and wearable diagnostic and therapeutic systems; radar for remote or noninvasive monitoring and tracking; wireless communication technologies and wireless power transfer for body-area networking; cellular and molecular level spectroscopy; and sensor, device and instrumentation development utilizing electromagnetic waves for biomedical applications.

The focuses of J-ERM are on unifying the sciences and applications of medicine and biology related to and/or utilizing electromagnetics, RF signals, and microwaves/millimeter waves. The manuscripts emphasize important features in biological studies and practical aspects in medical applications. Instrumentation, device fabrication and development, hardware, software, interface, simulation, mathematics, and physics described in the manuscripts are to support their implementation for biological and medical applications. Pre-clinical and clinical application papers enabled by novel methods utilizing electromagnetics are particularly encouraged. The authors are asked to provide a visual summary with a figure to summarize the achievement of research in the manuscript and a "takehome message" with maximum five bullet points to highlight the significance, innovation, and conclusion of the work.

This index covers all technical items-papers, correspondence, reviews, etc.-that appeared in this periodical during 2023, and items from previous years that were commented upon or corrected in 2023. Departments and other items may also be covered if they have been judged to have archival value. The Author Index contains the primary entry for each item, listed under the first author's name. The primary entry includes the coauthors' names, the title of the paper or other item, and its location, specified by the publication abbreviation, year, month, and inclusive pagination. The Subject Index contains entries describing the item under all appropriate subject headings, plus the first author's name, the publication abbreviation, month, and year, and inclusive pages. Note that the item title is found only under the primary entry in the Author Index.

Biomedical applications of electromagnetics is a fundamental field of interest for the antennas and propagation (AP) community, which is why we have decided to debut a new column called “Bioelectromagnetics,” starting with this issue of IEEE Antennas and Propagation Magazine . I am very grateful to Prof. Asimina Kiourti from the ElectroScience Laboratory of The Ohio State University for agreeing to be the column’s founding editor. The column will focus on biomedical applications of electromagnetics, propagation, and antennas. All of the contributions should be written in the magazine’s style, addressing readers in our entire AP community. If the article’s content and style would make it appropriate for one of our technical publications, including IEEE Journal of Electromagnetics, RF and Microwaves in Medicine and Biology , it is probably not suitable for the magazine. Instead, the contributions should be written to be understandable by a large technical audience so that even those AP members with research interests outside bioelectromagnetism could understand and be cross fertilized by the column’s content. Review articles from recognized experts in their respective fields will be equally welcome. All prospective authors should first contact the column editor or editor-in-chief before preparing their manuscripts to check the compatibility of their perspective contribution with the column’s scope.
