Abstract
Based on a path-breaking holistic approach, this chapter reports a small portion of the vast world of rare-earth β-diketonate (Eu3+ and Sm3+) hybrid organic complexes, which have a remarkable potential as red-emissive materials for the fabrication of red organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs). Distinguishing features of these complexes include their extremely narrow emission lines, high internal quantum efficiencies, and enhanced color purity. Since OLEDs are in the track of replacing other light sources in several areas of lighting applications, an attempt has been made to illustrate the significant work that has been carried out on these emitters with a view to their application in environmentally friendly, low-cost, and efficient large-area diffuse lighting.
