Abstract

Although interpersonal victimization is known to be detrimental to many facets of girls’ development, there is limited research that explores the role of sexual orientation as it connects to Latina interpersonal victimization. This chapter draws from the 2013 Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System (YRBSS) data and investigates differences in interpersonal victimization for lesbian, gay, bisexual, or queer (LGBQ) Latina girls, in comparison to heterosexual Latina girls. Overall, LGBQ Latina girls have increased odds of being bullied, experiencing dating violence, and facing sexual assault. This chapter also highlights the importance of researching and addressing the interpersonal victimization that Latina girls endure.
