Abstract

This chapter identifies and highlights the important aspects of assessing, eliminating, and controlling hazards in workplace, and introduces managers to the method for locating and evaluating hazards, decision making in hazard control, installation of preventative and corrective measures, role of safety and health inspections, and safety and health program evaluations. The first process in a comprehensive hazard control program is to identify and evaluate hazards located in the workplace. Once hazards are identified and ranked according to their negative impact, a report is prepared and submitted to the management; this enables management to make informed decisions to upgrade their operations and training methods while reducing accidents, injuries, and other undesirable situations. The next three steps in the hazardous control program are implementation of control measures, inspection and monitoring of activities to assess the effectiveness of existing controls, and evaluation of the effectiveness of efforts to improve the overall quality of safety and health within the business.
