Abstract

High-resolution 1H NMR spectra of amorphous aluminium phosphate catalysts in combination with catalytic activity data show that the sharp increase in catalytic activity towards isobutanol dehydration and 1-butene isomerization on catalysts with P/A1> 1 is associated with the formation of surface OH groups with chemical shifts typical of acidic aluminium phosphate.
