Abstract
Intraoperative Motor Evoked Potential (MEP) is part of the standard protocol in many cranial and spinal surgeries. Unfortunately, some unusual techniques of intraoperative MEP described in the literature, are not being used in the IONM routine and were not mentioned in the Guidelines. Among such techniques, TcMEP from cranial innervated muscles are easy to record and reproduce, especially from facial and laryngeal muscles. The techniques will be presented from electrode placement to stimulation setup, and the utility of the method will be discussed in this lecture. We are convinced that, beyond the continuous and stimulated EMG, such techniques can improve the armamentarium to prevent the damage of cranial nerve motor pathways in the operating room.
