Abstract
With the application of Hot Cathode Fluorescent Lamps (HCFL lamps) in LCD Backlighting applications high brightness backlights with a good motion fidelity and dynamic contrast can be realized. In this contribution the operation principles will be discussed. Experimental data will be presented to show that with HCFL lamps it is possible to achieve a good lifetime performance, a good light output maintenance performance and good chromaticity maintenance.
