Abstract

Pediatric traumatic brain injury (TBI) presents a common yet unique and life-threatening condition that requires rapid assessment and potential surgical intervention. The optimal medical management remains to be determined but relies heavily upon physiologic principles of cerebral blood flow and volume as well as cerebral metabolism. Described here are the unique anatomy of pediatric skull and brain, patterns of injury observed, and the current approaches to management.
