Abstract

This chapter focuses on OpenVMS MAIL system-management tasks and techniques for using MAIL as a system-management tool. The system profile database contains an entry for each OpenVMS MAIL user to describe mail options configuration and the user's new message count. A user entire profile can be viewed only by executing the SHOW ALL command from the account. The text of mail messages is stored in each user's personal mail database, which by default is located in the user's default login directory. The user's mail database consists of a MAIL.MAI file; short mail messages are stored in the file MAIL.MAI and longer messages are stored in separate files. As users receive messages, their default login directory tends to fill up with mail-related files. Multipurpose Internet Mail Extension (MIME) is supported as utility in OpenVMS and is not built into MAIL.
