Abstract

In this chapter we aim at reviewing the literatures on family wealth, in particular that on family offices, its related governance implications as well as the literature on family business advisors. Subsequently, we discuss the findings from these literature streams to reveal interdependencies and relationships between family offices, governance aspects and advisors. Finally, we conceptually integrate those results into a holistic model on advisor involvement in the unique context of family offices. Hence, in this chapter we reveal how the traditional family business research is moving towards other disciplines such as family offices and their interrelated, family external parties such as professional advisors. In doing so, we aim at contributing to the literatures on family wealth, in particular family offices, governance and that on advisors by bridging the so far mostly isolated sub-disciplines within family business research and by providing an integrated model thereof.
