Abstract

This chapter focuses on how the RIS process uses Operating System Chooser (OSC) files, the way it works, and how they can be modified to add more functionality to the RIS server. It also discusses the steps to create additional OSC files and provides an overview of the possibility in OSC files. OSC files are created by a simple language called OSChooser Markup Language (OSCML), which is formed like HTML version. The files have the extension OSC and can be modified in Notepad and displayed with Internet Explorer. When customizing the OSC files, more functionality can be added and the standard text can be customized to reflect the company's needs. The simplest approach is to change the text in standard OSC files to reflect the contact information on error screens and give additional information to the user. This can be done in Notepad and is a fairly simple process. There are more options to change the standard process by changing the default flow in the OSC files process.
