Abstract

SummaryThe goal of the Donor Registries project was to survey worldwide registries of hematopoietic stem cells donors for practices regarding the human leukocyte antigen (HLA) typing of volunteer donors at recruitment and to use that information as a basis for discussion of the issues surrounding HLA typing within donor registries. A series of recommendations regarding the HLA typing of donors, quality control of HLA testing, and improving communication of HLA issues within registry networks is provided. National and international projects to assess the HLA diversity within registries are also described.
