Abstract

Next-generation sequencing (NGS) may offer a more comprehensive assessment of penile implant biofilm compared to conventional culture. Improved characterization of biofilms using NGS may provide insight as to how infections may be reduced by potentially guiding tailored antibiotic prophylaxis, antibiotic irrigation, or implant antibiotic coatings. We hypothesize that penile implant biofilm differs between diabetic (DM) and non-DM patients because of the potentially immunocompromised nature of DM patients.
