Abstract

14. Etienne Verley : L'Archéologie du savoir and the problem of periodisation. In his research on L'Histoire de la folie , La Naissance de la clinique , first of all, but more particularly in Les Mots et les choses, Foucault proposed a radical change in the traditional division into periods of the history of ideas from the 16th century onwards. L'Archéologie du savoir sets out to be a reflection upon the method of analysis employed in these works. But the investigation of the method leads on to new problems and appears, in many points, notably that of division into periods, to constitute a critical revision of the works to which it refers. On what is based this shift of thought, what effects can one pinpoint behind l'Archéologie du savoir , such is the intention of the study undertaken in this article.
