Abstract

The development of the human race is becoming intensely dependent on the natural environment and may be restrained by its future declination in response to a negative stimulus. This century has witnessed unprecedented environmental degradation resulting from population growth, industrialization, and urbanization that poses continuing challenges for the existence of life. In this era, with globalization transforming into digitization, the emergence of artificial intelligence (AI) is imperative in industrial revolution 4.0. AI and other contemporary interventions fueling the fourth industrial revolution can be used to achieve the optimal outcome at an appropriate time. It can improve efficiency, speed, and accuracy in everyday jobs and development. AI intervention and advancements will also be essential in attaining the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Aimed at enhancing the quality of life, strengthening climate change resilience, improving environmental health, and assuring global equality, AI will pave the way to achieving environmental intelligence by 2030. In light of this, this chapter focuses on critically examining the application of AI to achieving environmental sustainability for a better future.
