Abstract

Clinical testing of binocular vision is important for patients with strabismus or binocular vision disorders. Sensory fusion, motor fusion, and stereopsis are three binocular functions that can be effectively evaluated in the clinic. These functions may be normal or abnormal and associated with sensory adaptations to strabismus, including suppression and anomalous retinal correspondence, regardless of eye alignment. Test selection and interpretation of results are easier if the basic physiology of binocular vision is understood.
