Abstract

In recent years, metal oxide heterostructures possessing unique characteristics have attracted the attention of the scientific community for environmental remediation. The metal oxide heterostructures have a wide range of applications in sensing, pollutant degradation, display devices, solar cell, transistors, organic catalysis, antimicrobial activity, and photoreduction. In this chapter, we have discussed the basic idea of metal oxide heterostructures and pathways to alter their characteristics for the desired application. Some widely used metal oxide–based heterostructures containing TiO2, ZnO, SnO2, Bi2O3, etc. are elaborated in this chapter. The advanced characterization techniques to uncover the characteristics of the heterostructures are introduced in detail. Furthermore, various applications of metal oxide based heterostructure are also summarized in the chapter. The content of the chapter will give new insight into the metal oxide heterostructure.
