Abstract
There is a disproportionate distribution of health care resources among child and adolescent psychiatry patients, and there have been limited interventions that have significantly reduced the resource utilization rate of high-need patients. One intervention that has shown promise is the use of nurse case management (NCM) service. Starting in 2013, the University of Iowa offered NCM service for high-needs patients. These services included weekly phone contact to target patients, illness and medication education, crisis management strategies, and interpersonal support.
