Abstract
Pubertal development is based on a highly complex network of different regulatory pathways. The identification of patients with monogenic causes of hypogonadotropic hypogonadism was of importance to gain new knowledge about the role of neuropeptides like KISS-1. Additionally, these cascades are affected by nutritional and metabolic signals. Defects in Leptin production or Leptin receptor signaling are accompanied by obesity and impaired gonadotropin secretion. These observations were helpful to understand the interaction between the leptin melanocortin pathway and central pubertal development.
