Abstract

Introduction: Vertical muscle deviations often coexist with basic horizontal muscle deviations. Previous studies have focused on separate horizontal rectus and vertical rectus muscle surgery (deviations >15Δ) or horizontal muscle transposition surgery alone to effectively resolve a vertical deviation. The purpose of this study is to determine whether horizontal muscle surgery with transposition or additional vertical muscle surgery is most effective in resolving a vertical deviation in patients with exotropia. Additionally, to determine the measurement for incorporating a vertical muscle surgery to an exotropic surgery improve its overall effect.
