Abstract

The purpose of the study is to analyse the conditions for the formation of the encyclopaedia as a genre of science-based literature that shaped the ideas about scientific knowledge during the late Middle Ages and the Renaissance period, its compatibility with the specific socio-cultural values of the educated circle of the European language community. Scientific novelty lies in carrying out a comprehensive analysis of the stages of preparation of encyclopaedic editions as works of science-based literature, viewed as a phenomenon of the creative process, an element of authors’ creative biography, a manifestation of historical and literary movement in the development of literature in the XIII-XVII centuries.
